The lawyer of former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, Vitali Serdyuk, spoke to the press ahead of a court case dealing with the deaths of protesters during Ukraine’s 'Euromaidan' protests, in Kiev, Thursday. Serdyuk branded the case a "fake" claiming that "the defence of Viktor Yanukovych demanded from 2015 that the Prosecutor General's Office - and Lutsenko personally - would pass the Maidan case to court so that it would be possible to find out who is still to blame, to establish the circumstances, to make public the actual facts of the events of 2014." Monday on his Fox News Channel show, host Tucker Carlson revealed his network had been threatened with legal action for its report a week ago that claimed former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and Washington, D.C.-based lobbying firm The Podesta Group were the focus of special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into potential Russia interference in the 2016 presidential election. Carlson noted Tony Podesta, brother of Hillary Clinton campaign manager John Podesta, resigned from The Podesta Group earlier in the day and blamed Fox News’ reporting as a reason for his resignation. In addition to blaming Fox News, Carlson also revealed that the network had been threatened with legal action by a lawyer on behalf of The Podesta Group. “[T]oday Tony Podesta resigned as head of his company,” C...
Ukrainian opposition leader Arseniy Yatsenyuk visited Yulia Tymoshenko in hospital on Tuesday, where the former prime minister is being held on charges of abuse of office. Speaking outside the hospital in Kharkiv, Yatsenyuk said the decision to release Tymoshenko lies with President Viktor Yanukovich. "To stop political prosecution is in the hands of President Yanukovich. And it depends on his political will," he told reporters. Ukraine risks losing a proposed free-trade agreement with the European Union if Tymoshenko is not released. The EU views her case as politically motivated and has warned that it will not sign the free-trade deal with Kiev in November, if Tymoshenko remains jailed. Germany has offered to fly her to Berlin for treatment of a back problem after she is freed on ...
