The lawyer of former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, Vitali Serdyuk, spoke to the press ahead of a court case dealing with the deaths of protesters during Ukraine’s 'Euromaidan' protests, in Kiev, Thursday. Serdyuk branded the case a "fake" claiming that "the defence of Viktor Yanukovych demanded from 2015 that the Prosecutor General's Office - and Lutsenko personally - would pass the Maidan case to court so that it would be possible to find out who is still to blame, to establish the circumstances, to make public the actual facts of the events of 2014." Monday on his Fox News Channel show, host Tucker Carlson revealed his network had been threatened with legal action for its report a week ago that claimed former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and Washington, D.C.-based lobbying firm The Podesta Group were the focus of special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into potential Russia interference in the 2016 presidential election. Carlson noted Tony Podesta, brother of Hillary Clinton campaign manager John Podesta, resigned from The Podesta Group earlier in the day and blamed Fox News’ reporting as a reason for his resignation. In addition to blaming Fox News, Carlson also revealed that the network had been threatened with legal action by a lawyer on behalf of The Podesta Group. “[T]oday Tony Podesta resigned as head of his company,” C...

Ukrainian fighter pilot Nadiya Savchenko has been imprisoned in Russia since last summer, after she was kidnapped by Russian-backed militants in east Ukraine and forcibly taken across the border. Russia accuses her of complicity in the murder of two journalists; charges which have been widely condemned as fabricated. In an exclusive interview with Natalka Pisnya of Ukrainian broadcaster TSN, Feygin explained who in Washington is on Savchenko's side, why the fight for her freedom will be a long one, and why her release must not be used as a bargaining chip in negotiations between Russia and the West. On Monday, Michael Cohen, Donald Trump's personal lawyer, admitted to meeting with a Russian-born Trump associate and a member of Ukraine's parliament last month but denied that he was given a peace plan that was then delivered to former National Security Adviser Mike Flynn. In an interview with NBC News, Cohen confirmed that Felix Sater, a former Trump associate with a criminal record, asked him to come to a meeting, adding, "I emphatically deny discussing this topic or delivering any documents to the White House and/or General Flynn." According to The New York Times, the meeting was called to discuss a peace plan being pushed by a Ukrainian lawmaker, Andrey Artemenko, who is closely associated with Russian president Vladimir Putin and Paul Manafort, Trump's former campaign chairman. http...

The lawyer participating in criminal proceedings has the right to defend a suspect, an accused person (a defendant), represent interests of a victim, a civil plaintiff, a civil defendant, a private prosecutor, and provide legal assistance to a witness. When resolving the issues related to criminal proceedings (detention, convoy, arrest), the detainee, the person suspected of committing a criminal offense, as well as his/her family should require prompting of a lawyer (defense attorney) in order to enter into an agreement with the lawyer (defense attorney) as soon as possible, preferably within 24 hours since the detention, because, when the defendant has no qualified legal aid, he/she usually gives evidence that could be used against him/her or acts in a way that can significantly worsen...
The trial of Nadiya Savchenko, a Ukrainian pilot unjustly imprisoned in Russia, has captivated the headlines all over the world. The international community responded with stern criticism of Putin's handling of Savchenko's case. U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said Savchenko's conviction to 22 years in prison is Russia's blatant disregard for the principles of justice and a clear violation of the Minsk agreements. With more on the case of Nadiya Savchenko, one of her defence lawyers Ilya Novikov joined us in our newsroom. Like thousands of other Ukrainian men, Gennadiy decided to volunteer for the Ukrainian army when the conflict in his country began. But Gennadiy’s background is not like the average soldier fighting in eastern Ukraine. He has a wife and two small children, a US degree in law and a good job. He left it all behind to defend his country. Ukraine Today spoke to Gennadiy about the war, about the people defending Ukraine, and about his motivation to take part in active combat. In his parting statement, Podesta said this, quote, ‘It is impossible to run a public affairs firm by Fox News and the right-wing media. Well, Podesta isn’t just complaining about us — he’s threatening us. This afternoon, we got a letter from Geoff Garinther. Its a lawyer with Venable LLP, a big law firm here in DC. The letter demands that this show, quote, ‘immediately cease and desist disseminating false and misleading reports about Mr. Podesta and the Podesta Group.'” “It demands we retract and delete all our prior reporting on the Podesta Group and warns if we don’t do this, quote, ‘Mr. Podesta may pursue legal action, including for damages, in order to ...
Three German families are set to bring compensation claims against Ukraine over the MH17 air disaster. They are seeking as much as EUR 1 million for each of the 298 victims of the crash. The passenger plane, which went down on July 17, was struck by a missile whilst flying over territory in east Ukraine controlled by insurgents who are being backed by Russia. The lawyer leading the case against Ukraine, Elmar Giemulla, says the country should have closed its airspace if it could not guarantee the safety of flights.
